Mountain Trails Agency (MTA) is a government-owned organization in Georgia responsible for managing ski facilities in well-known Georgian ski resorts including Bakuriani, Gudauri, Goderdzi, and Mestia. The agency handles strategic planning and careful administration of ski lifts and slopes in these resorts. Their crucial role involves maintaining skiing infrastructure, enhancing visitor experiences, and ensuring safety standards to create a secure and enjoyable environment for skiing enthusiasts. Additionally, MTA plays a significant role in organizing both local and international ski sporting events.
In February 2022, Georgia, namely, the Bakuriani Ski Resort, hosted the FIS Freestyle Ski, Snowboard, and Freeski World Championships.
In October 2023, Georgia became one of the six exclusive countries granted permission to host the Freeride World Tour. Therefore, during the 2024 ski season, the FIS Freeride World Tour will take place in Mestia, at the Tetnuldi ski resort of Georgia.
The "Mountain Resorts Development Company" Ltd, was established in 2013 under the patronage of the LEPL National Agency for State Property, operating under the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. Initially, the company was known as Gudauri Development Agency Ltd and was responsible for the management of the Gudauri mountain ski resort.
Following a decision made by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the company's management responsibilities were expanded in 2014 and 2015. Specifically, in 2014, it took over the management of the Bakuriani resort area, including Didveli, and in 2015, it assumed control of the Goderdzi ski resort.
By 2017, Mountain Resorts Development Company Ltd managed the following resorts: Gudauri, Bakuriani (Kokhta, Mitarbi, Didveli), Goderzi, Hatsvali, and Tetnuldi (Mestia).
Since February 2022, following the rebranding of the "Mountain Resorts Development Company," both their name and visual style have transformed. The company currently operates under the name Mountain Trails Agency (M.T.A).
Georgia is home to four ski resorts that offer diverse experiences for winter sports enthusiasts. These mountain resorts, including Gudauri, Bakuriani, Mestia, and Goderdzi, feature a variety of ski trails, each with its unique characteristics. These resorts cater to skiers of all levels, making Georgia a fantastic destination for winter sports enthusiasts.
